Hey /sci/
I always wondered why they don't just create huge batteries and build battery power plants to produce electricity.
So please tell me:
Why?

the question is far too stupid to provide a justifiable response

It's a conspiracy.

I thought someone would answer like this...
But I'm not trolling.

hugely hugely inefficient and expensive

>> No.4067665

because the power output would be ridiculously low among other things

As yet, batteries are highly inefficient. If we could make efficient batteries, we would resolve the peak/off peak problem of electricity production.

There are a myriad of reasons, the main one being that it would be expensive as hell. You should read up on how a typical power plant generates electricity vs how a battery generates electricity.

You should also study pic related.

What this guy said. Carbon nanotubes promise to increase battery capacity and efficiency, but not nearly to the degree necessary for large-scale energy production.

This picture expresses every single emotion that has passed through 99.999% of /sci/'s as they have read this.

Do yourself a favor. Instead of battery powerplants, you can make one of your own. Get a jar, to pieces of wire, and a motor.

Put one wire in a coil on the bottom, and one at the top, connect those wires to your motor. Next add in common household ammonia and mix with bleach, the reaction from these two chemicals create a somewhat strong magnetic field and when they hit the wires, they'll convert that to electricity to run the motor. Tada! Cheap and efficient mini-powerplant.

Makes a great room deodorizer too.

This. It's the reason why electric vehicles aren't widely adopted.
