1) most people here dont really go to school
2) those people dont seem to enjoy reading rigorous text books and academic papers
3) a lot of them are probably the type who believe microsoft and apple are evil and try to get their grandmother to use slackware linux

The only concern is that the individual discipline boards would be ghost towns, whereas one general /sci/ will will bustling with physicsfags, chemfags, and biofags who could each contribute to the same discussions. A lot the fields have overlaps.

an integrated ms.paint to go along the comment field in a post where we can draw out simple diagrams or explanations

so we dont have to draw out our explanations onto ms.paint, save it as a jpeg and then upload it onto the board

also, a feature where you can copy another's drawing and then add on or change it to point out mistakes / errors in calculation / logic

for any serious discussion of conceptual/theoretical science, i cannot fathom doing without a whiteboard

(which is also much the reason why the posts on this board are so crap)

Philosophy and Religion
General Knowledge and Inquiry

(I think General Knowledge and Inquiry is absolutely essential. so that we can post news/topics/questions about anything without fear of it being irrelevant and deleted.)

With a summarised index on the front page showing us the title and an expandable first post of EVERY thread (that way we dont have to keep bumping threads or scouring through 15 pages to find a thread)

And the option to filter the frontpage to display categories according to our preferences

like a chatroom forum style of communication where we dont have to keep refreshing all the time in the hopes of someone having posted in the elapsed time from when we last refreshed

in that sense, every thread is like a chatroom in itself, so its not really a BBS anymore- but theres really no use to sticking to the BBS formula because 4chan will still remain the obvious choice for BBS, and just look at how all the BBS alternatives have failed.

i say try something new and see how it goes. keep it clean and if it works, you could make a lot of money.

One of the problems with the design of 4chan is that the boards are too separate from each other. There's no way for moderators to move a thread, and spammers can and generally do evade the anti-flooding mechanism by crossposting.
