Because collage is a huge fucking scam that steals away your money and life. You're not even guaranteed a job after collage.

At least in college you learn how to spell 'college'.

>> No.4009608

Oh wow! You're right.

Hope the thousands and thousands of dollars were worth it.

(Actually, you don't learn how to spell college in college. You learn that in middle school)

If you're an engineer going to a decent school, yes you are.

literally guaranteed? do they refund your tuition if you dont get hired?

>> No.4009653

Here's the thing with degrees: if it's in a joke major like sociology or psychology then you won't find many jobs.

PROTIP: Don't major in a joke, major in something real.

theres always a job for people who love what they're doing and are good at it

you know it's true

Yeah, but you better be REALLY good at it.

You probably aren't.

College is useful for 3 things:
1-Learning how to learn
2-Making connections
3-Using College facilities/resources

Carmack never needed any of these things.

>> No.4009676

Maybe the engine Rage used wouldn't have glitches if Carmack went to college.

>> No.4009678

Because a degree doesn't mean shit.

It only implies you understand whatever field you studied.

If you have work experience you will get a job before the guy with no experience.

College is a place where people who have a lot of money go to either have a good time, or learn to approach their field from a logical point of view.

If you already know how to tackle problems in your desired field, then you don't need collagioe.

biology, the last refuge of a scoundrel.

pizza and working really hard on id software.

Very funny

Also, if anyone wants to completely disregard college I recommend you get a basic understanding of financial theory. People like Carmack are outliers, most startups fail. Even with success many people go on to lose it all.

Yes, you don't NEED a college degree. There are options like self employment that might be a good choice depending on your situation.

>allegedly he pretty good in college
>Carmack beats it

Deserves it for not liking Doom.
