Tell me /sci/ .... why do we like music? What makes some songs better than others, why are songs good with and without words ?

I think it's something to do with the fact that we like logical, structured patterns because we are evolved to do that as it helps us resonate with reality better, and liking music/art is just a side-effect.

I bet it's a society thing.

What's "logical pattern" mean?

There's a sequence of varying tones, pitches, speeds with differences in volumes. We are conscious of the obvious patterns in the song such as the beat and chorus. But there are other elements of the song we aren't aware of, the different sounds come together and when we hear them they stimulate different parts of our mind, it's like a picture but it's audio instead.

Why do we like a rectangle as opposed to a ugly, random shape? That's the jyst of what I mean and I want other peoples thoughts on it.

I don't think i do. And even if i did, i wouldn't let language erode in a direction i disprove of without a fight.

We... don't? Do we? Not on a general level, i think.

Music is an expression of an abstract concept, just as is art, literature, poetry and sculpture. They bring things out of the abstract and into the discrete.

We like exploring those concepts

we're adapted to like certain proportions of shapes...which is why we find cats & babies cute.

those asses help me resonate with reality better

Eh, I don't think it has much to do with patterns. I tend to prefer songs that sound...pattern-less...but like songs with steady beats all the same.

Lol whoops. Not OP

>we like logical, structured patterns because we are evolved to do that as it helps us resonate with reality better
>implying that humans like logical patterns
>implying reality is logical
>implying knowledge of the word logical

Fucking autistic kids. Go back to rearranging your stamp collections.
