/sci/. I'm at a crossroads once again. I'm a junior in college, currently a physics major. However, my math grades are better and I think I'm generally just more of a math person, so I'm adding a math major and staying a 5th year.

I love both subjects, probably physics more so. But I cannot stand how much work I have to put in to them. I'm not particularly talented at either but I can make it. I'll probably end up graduating with around a 3.3 GPA if I'm lucky.

It makes me feel like it's not worth it. I literally have no life and I just study all the time. I love uncovering the secrets of the universe, but I wish I had free time to enjoy myself while I'm young. It's tempting to just give up all the time.

what do you think /sci/? Next semester I'm taking Thermodynamics, Abstract Algebra, Real Analysis, and Advanced Physics Lab. is it worth it?

I don't even know what i'm gonna do when I graduate.

You are on the road to greatness OP. Keep up the great work, it will pay off in the long run.

I don't know why you "put in so much work", I bet this probably has to do with your study habbits and study skills, more then your ability to learn.

Try to impove your study skills, and you can get just as much work done in only a fraction of the time.

WORK SMART, NOT HARD. YOU ARE A PHYSICIST AND A MATHEMATICAN, YOU ARE PAID TO THINK! FUCKING ACT LIKE IT!

You have no future with a "physics" major. Switch to engineering and hopefully you can have something resembling a normal life.

physics and maths are useless unless you can apply them

get a real degree and don't regret a useless degree for the rest of your life

or are you one of those occupy wall street idiots who think they are entitled to a job?

I once came to a crossroads in my life, just like you, right now. I'm always coming to fucking crossroads. But I'm PREPARED. I bring my nocks. No biggie. Where are your nocks, Anon?

Not OP but how is a math degree for employment? What about an applied math? Is computational math the same as applied?

I'd like to work on interesting problems and have room to think for myself and maybe program stuff to automate it once I figure it out. I'm second year EE and so far it is stuff Matlab can do in 10 seconds but which takes me like half an hour of doing partial fractions and Laplace transforms and bullshit.

engineering it is I guess

or how is computer science or statistics? I know every hipster nerd wants to work on natural language and neural networks and shit. I don't really want to be an industrial programmer.

I have an engineering master's degree.

Pure maths/physics is useless.

Deal with it, son.

Finish your fucking degree, and go to grad school. Unless physics/mathematics is too much for you? Maybe you just arent smart enough?

If you feel like you are really over your head try something easier like english, womens studies, fast food worker, or if worse come to worse, engineering.

A math degree is far from useless. Especially a masters in applied math. now pure math might be difficult to leverage for a job, but if you bust out some applied stuff really quick (like bio-informatics, actuarial sciences, or whatever) you can make mad dollahs
or you can just go into academia if you really like math

Therefore if you get a maths masters you will earn $200k a year as a surveyor.

Selling almost anything food related to restaurants, i got a big fucking surprise when i realized that there's almost no competitors for this market in my country and these few competitors prices are pretty high. If you can find a niche and you know the trade, it can be pretty easy.
