How can i find out angle v by using the tangent function?

I just started learning about trigonometric functions, but dont remember how to find it out.

Help a future scientist out ;)

plz tell me you are in 10th grade, or earlier.
tan(v) = 3/5.5
arctan(3/5.5) = v

bumping because i want to know some good resources for trig.

i still don't understand how any of that stuff was derived or why it is used the way it is... like converting to radians, or whatnot. i just absolutely don't get it.
