no. why? because pirates are real, scepticfag.

Correlation = Inductive reasoning
Causation = Deductive reasoning

Inductive reasoning can be disproved, Deductive reasoning cannot

all I'm seeing is that correlation doesn't correlate with causation
smeels like circular logic bros

>> No.3945324

Seriously? The only thing you need to know is that some things are correlated which do not exist in a cause and effect relationship. That fact that his can occur means correlation does not equal causation otherwise every instance of correlation would have a causative connection.

As religiousity tends towards 1, Correlation = causation.

Assume that the statement in your argument are abreviated . We have a valid deductive argument (Meaning that if the statements are true -assumed they are- then the conclusion is true).
Our argument is,
All Snow is water,
All Water is h2o,
Therefore All snow is h2o.
This is valid because knowing the first two statements are true guarantees that the third is. Lets change the order.
All Snow is h20,
All Snow is water,
therefore, All water is h2o.
This is true, but the argument is invalid. Let snow be a, water be b, and h20 be c.
The first was.
All A is B.
All B is c,
Therefore All A is C
The second was
All A is C
All A is B
Therefore All C is B.
If we use Cats for A, Felines for C, and Mammals for B, we get
All Cats are Felines,
All Cats are Mammals,
All Mammals are Felines.
That's just not true.
Corelation is not causation because it is the wrong form of argument, and can only be used to discuss probability, not causality. Causality, or definitive relationships may only come from deduction and highly controlled experimentation.

I hope that is what you were after. Any logic textbook will go into more detail about the form of argument and the basis of knowledge. Its good for any scientist to know.

>> No.3945464

Because correlation is a mathematical measure of association and nothing more.

Correlation: x, y

Does x cause y, or y cause x?

Correlation: a, b, c

Does a cause b and c, or b and c cause a? Or, does a and b cause c, or c cause a and b? Or, does a and c cause b, or does b cause c and a?

...etc...

>> No.3945496

>>3945067

All you're seeing are counterexamples.

It takes one instance of correlation not equaling causation to prove that correlation does not equal causation. You got three. To ask for any more is plain greedy.

Just because two things occur together does not mean one caused the other...
