Not sweating it much though, since I'm a CS major.

$0 from loans.
~$30 left on my credit card that I need to pay off.
~$300 left on my car insurance.
Don't have a lot of money and I get paid very little from the research program I'm involved in. Have some left over money from Pell Grants to help pay for some stuff. Still pretty broke though.

You should be sweating it dude... even if you have some amazing experience that will definitely land you a job out of undergrad you're going to be going through some lean times to pay that shit off. Plus (assuming you're US) you can't default on that shit.

>> No.3943557

0, I have only moral debts. Oh, and I owe my friend $3.

>> No.3943571

0. and I'm going back to school to pick up another shiny piece of paper.

I am 23 years old, I have worked a job ever since I turned 18. I can actually pay for my tuition by working at my part time job TWO days out of the week and I'll still make a profit by the end of the term. I have a credit card and banks love me because in the 4 years that I've had it I have never paid it off late or neglected to pay it off at all. I do not have a fancy car or a fancy house, but I'm okay with that. I am part of the 99% standing with the 1%, deal with it nerds.

I go to UIUC for CS, which is considered to have one of the best departments. It's not MIT per se, but it's pretty close to it. I'm very happy with the curriculum here.

I could've gone to the University of Florida and pay $5k in total, but I decided that UIUC is definitely worth the cost for me.

>> No.3943606

Ill end up with 33k in debt while my parents will have pulled out about 4-5k

Not sure if bad but it could be worst.

>> No.3943607

None from undergraduate work and actuarial exams.
Will be roughly $20K for graduate work.

$0.00. No student loan debt, no medical debt, no car payments, no mortgage.

Was lucky enough to put together money from the state, grandparents, parents, and my own work to be debt free shortly after I nearly didn't graduate college (but ultimately did). Been living with the folks ever since while the economy shits the bed, saving money at a job which is one tier up from mcjobs. Meanwhile, several of my buddies have had to move back in with their folks while they pursue more advanced/specialized education- I feel a sort of perverse vindication that I didn't set the bar higher after I graduated....

You don't pay for education. You pay for qualifications. The prices rise in accordance with the prestige of the granter, not because the quality of education soars to a level justifying the extravagant price. the quality of schooling is roughly the same across all institutions since it's all mainly self reliant with some slight variance in the numbers of journals you are permitted to access.

What's a student loan? My film school costs me €300 euro a year. And we have all the professional equipment for loan for free anyone would ever need.

And why the hell would I need credit cards? What's the point of spending money you don't have?
It seems like Americans buy A LOT on credit. While over here everyone saves money for when they need it. The only things worth taking a loan for is starting up a company, buying a house or a car.

left grad school with Ph.D. and $20K in the bank. Had a BA and $500 when I started. No debt. Follow the money and work like a motherfucker.

If somebody won't pay you to go to school, think seriously about what it means to be in debt for that degree.

If somebody will pay you, get a fucking job anyway for as much as you can stand it - you're losing the early peak earning years of your life in grad school.
