Mathdude here. So I decided to read The Hidden Reality, thinking it was going to be pure pop sci stuff that emphasizes sci fi stuff like PARALLEL UNIVERSES or WORMHOLES that makes occasionally references to math, but it turns out that Brian Greene has a boner for mathematics in physics... which, given his work in string theory, should be no surprise. It was also a neat book.

So why isn't there a strong love and desire to learn mathematics in the pop science community? There's a bunch of people coming up with their own ideas about physics (that would be torn to pieces by a scientific review committee, which already tears about strong ideas by respectable physicists on a daily basis) but I rarely hear people talking about how awesome abstract algebra or complex numbers is. There are many people in youtube into things like Cosmos and physics... but still no math.

How do we spread math into the public like how music or sports are spread to the public through talented musicians/athletes?

people aspire to be like musicians and athletes because of the social prestige. there isn't a whole lot of social prestige in physics/maths... what do you think of when you think of a physicist or mathematicians? usually some beta faggot with 0 social skills. thats (imo) why people dont wanna go into maths, that and the fact that its very difficult for most people.

>mfw math will always be the most indie and shoved away culture and will never become mainstream like mall goths, chic geeks or reddit faggots
>forever mathematics
