Would you describe yourself as a Jungian or Freudian psychologist, or is that an archaic distinction?

iknow you're not an MD, but in your opinion is there a point to go to a psychiatrist if you're depressed, suicidal, and hate-filled?

archaic. The field has progressed a lot in the past 100 years.

>>3938450
you should see both a psychiatrist and a psychologist. The psychiatrist will get you on the meds and the psychologist will work on helping you cope cognitively and behaviorally

>> No.3938493

>> No.3938501

How come you consider yourself an expert of the mind but you know nothing of the brain?

>> No.3938513

>>3938501

Not OP here, but you can be a great programmer without knowing the intimacies of how resistors, fiberglass, and magnetic writing come together in your machine to make it do its thing.

>> No.3938517

>>3938513
You're implying some sort of dichotomy between mind and brain that is similar to that of hardware/software. Are you a dualist?

>> No.3938526

How does it feel knowing you did all that work and it still isn't science?

>> No.3938529

>>3938517
You're implying that if someone believes that the mind is more than the sum of the brain's components, he must be a dualist. Are you familiar with the assimilation-contrast model?

>> No.3938537

>>3938517
No, you inferred that dichotomy. You also inferred he was an "expert of the mind": again, your words, not his.

My point is that not every computer-related activity requires equal mastery over hardware and software. Likewise, one doesn't necessarily have to understand neurons and gila to help someone talk through their phobias, for example.

>> No.3939780

>>3938437
Why do you post a picture of Freud when most of his theories have been discredited? This means you obviously don't have a Ph.D. in Psychology since no self-respecting psychologist even with an associates would make this mistake.
