I'm writing a book and trying to outline a perfect science focused utopia from various communities around the web

is there a chance to start a topic about a /sci/ utopia?

No one will have a name, because we all know tripfags and namefags are jerks. In practice this means that we will all have to submit to procedures which remove eyes and rupture the eardrum to ensure we won't accidentally know who someone else is.

It wouldn't work. There'd be more people, but there'd be less water, and we can't have that.

While such an utopia would be awesome to live in, I don't think it would make a terribly exciting book. While it at least be invaded by aliens or a rogue AI?

The first step will be to establish a device that will allow you full control over other people's mind and body.

From there on, it's pretty easy.

every technological device has to be open source and understandable (via virtualization if needed) to most of the population

this to prevent abuse from a smaller ring of individuals presenting technology as magic

one could argue that doing "bad things"
(you have to define what's bad but i'll use my right/wrong sense here)
is a criminal act and thus punished with a ban from the society

It must always involve LOADS of material resources, a high level of automation, and lots of energy resources. Asteroid mining, space-based solar, robots.
