Guys when doing math word problems, reducing is dividing not subtracting right ? :|

When you reduce triple a number by 6, the result is 15. Find the number

x3/6=15
x3=90
x=90/3
x=30

Right ? :|

For some reason I can't get it out of my head that reducing is to subtract. Because when you reduce your consumption of something you are using less not using the same amount but expressing your consumption in an easier to understand format.

:| checked the book, the answer was 7.

x3-6=15
x3=15+6
x3=21
x=21/3
x=7

But reducing is a term used when doing fractions too :\

Use parenthesis

(x3)-6=15
(x3)/6=15

Still have the same question. Reducing is subtracting per the book but I always thought that it denoted division.
