how do I calculate angle "a"

>> No.3920058

OP here

it has to be the tangent

but how do I calculate it?

arcsin(R/r)

yes, euclidean geometry is math, just like huckleberry finn is literature

Huckleberry Finn is literature. A fine example of social satire.

>> No.3920135

isn't angle a = the angle r makes with the red line?

>> No.3920143

>>3920135
no

a = arcsin(R/r)

>> No.3920149

If you extend the radius, you'll see that a + theta makes a right angle.

>> No.3920152

pi/4 - arccos(R/r)

>> No.3920156

which equals arcsin(R/r)

you are right, pi/2 - arccos(R/r) = arcsin(R/r)

both these are correct

pi/4 - arccos(R/r) is nonsense

>> No.3920170

>>3920161
You're correct and wrong. It's pi/2 - arccos(R/r) = arcsin(R/r)

>> No.3920171

do you mean pi/2?

It looks like the tangent line is parallel to <span class="math">\vec{r}
, so it should just be <span class="math">180°-r_{\phi}
.

facepalm

r is an arbitrary radius

>> No.3920185

heres what id do

find the first derivative of the function of the circle
sub in (x=l, y=sqrt(l^2 + r^2))
get slope
solve using trig

but then again i suck cocks

>> No.3920213

>>3920184
Why is it notated like a vector then? If it were just to show the length of the arbitrary radius, then, well, see pic.

we have AIs that would have recognized that r is the radius, and you cant? do you have to go through a catalog of all the different chairs every time a new chair is made in order to know if something is a chair or a table?
