Just ordered a Kindle only for studying my pirated textbooks.

Good idea?

Have you ever used it for importing (pirated) textbook PDFs?

There is not a single book on my Kindle that hasn't been a pirated .pdf converted to a .prc.

I can just use eBooks on my smartphone.

OP here. Don't have a smartphone. Probably would have used a smartphone for this if I had one.

>>3871125
Nice, nice.

>> No.3871160

does it handle math well? I'd hate to see a malformed nabla.

>> No.3871167

>>3871160
Math in most PDFs are displayed as images, no? It adds bloat to the filesize, but hopefully the Kindle would display it well.

>> No.3871176

Raster or image heavy (Raw scanned) .pdf's (Lots of old and grainy papers come to mind) or images in general take a long time and sometimes don't show well. Also, there's no efficient way to move up and down a page to, say, fit to the screen an image that otherwise stays between the upper-half-of-page and lower-half-of-page views.

Other than that, though, it's honestly the best purchase I've made.

>> No.3871186

i'm excited to get a kindle. i haven't bothered studying anything in-depth in about 7 years. i'm basically still 13.

this will change everything. i'm looking forward to using my intelligence and way with words to dominate others in debates on 4chan.

I am worried about that, but only one of my textbooks are like that. The majority of what I have are non-scanned PDFs (i.e., you can select and copy text).

Still, that is a thought that only came to my mind after I already ordered.

I'm reading the Biology textbook (Biology 8th Ed) and Jesus Christ isn't it a fucking pain in the ass.

Even with that, the benefits are such a little thing compared to a reading productivity increased tenfold.

Yes, I suppose despite the difficulties, it will will be an improvement. When I am at a computer, of course, I will just use the actual PDFs. But when I am out and about, waiting for classes, etc., my god will this be a godsend.

The biology textbook you are reading--did you buy it legitimately or was it pirated?

>> No.3871235

>>3871232

Pirated, of course. I'm in the same place as Inurdaes. Not a single payed-for book.

nope, kindles don't do djvu files

at least it's in PDF and not some weird format that uses a proprietary reader that limits the speed at which you can read to prevent piracy.

I find myself using the laptop more than a kindle, but if you usually travel a lot, get one.

I'm using it for maths and physics textbooks. Yeah, pretty good. Sometimes the font is too small, but turning it to landscape mode usually fixes it. And after 100 pages or so you'll get accustomed to it anyway. Also, cropping is your friend.

>> No.3871297

>>3871257
it also has a slightly higher resolution (1024x768) than the standard e-ink reader.

No, get ipad, or better yet and itouch/iphone. Shit is like a kindle in your pocket. And they both can do the same things as kindle, and a lot more. Fits all my songs, study guides, lecture powerpoints, notes, textbooks, homework agenda, and shitloads more. It shits on kindle!
