Does shit really smell bad, or have we "accepted" that it's a horrible smell, so we stay away from it?

here we go again

I've done some empirical research.

It smells like shit.
and cat shit really smells like shit

>> No.3871369

It's taught to be bad. Not a lot of research has been done (as it would require exposing babies to smells of poop). But the few that have been done have concluded that what we find disgusting (cockroaches, shit, etc.) will mostly be found disgusting after a long time only.
Babies are known to eat the shit and drink OJ with cockroaches in it when these experiments are performed.

Yeah, but babies are really fucking dumb.

Shit only smells bad because we consume meat. Go smell a vegans shit. It doesn't smell like anything. The viet kong used this to they re advantage in Vietnam.

Would you ever eat wild warthog shit? Cheetahs do and so do warthog piglets. Piglets aren't born with the bacteria to digest grass, so they get it from their mother's droppings. Not sure why Cheetahs eat it too though.

shit only smells bad if its been rotting in the gut for ages

a perfect 24 hr shit hardly smells at all

>Does shit really smell bad, or have we "accepted" that it's a horrible smell, so we stay away from it?

>implying that both options aren't complete subjective

Wtf do you mean by "really smell bad"? If you think it smells bad, then it smells bad.

It's a nature or nurture question. If your parents raised you to worship poop, would you think it smelled wonderful? Also, does poop smell bad to babies?

>> No.3872320

It's an evolved aversion to prevent the spread of disease, but it is a learned "disgust".
The more extreme "disgust" is because we mostly clean ourselves and get rid of shit smell ASAP. The few exceptions (shitting your pants, lets say) you are socially scolded. This ads a secondary psychological characteristic to an already inherent aversion in any culture that prioritizes sanitation. This is also why we are so uptight about farts.

dogs eat it and they have a better sense of smell than we do.

Why dont you go take a shit and smell it, then report back to us.

I think that is because they can survive re-digesting the useful proteins and nutrients from shit.

Regardless of culture, there are a few "universally" bad smells such as, vomit, human waste, body odors, burnt hair, and rotting garbage.

smells are just triggers.

Are you purposely asking stupid and uninformed questions?

Usually when your brain interprets a certain as "bad" or "stinky," it's trying to warn you that whatever is the source of it is (or the environment you both are in) might be something you want to avoid coming into contact with your body. Also we evolved to interpret different scents in such manners.
