it's as hard a science as you make it. i knew chemists (mostly of the p- variety) who could give most physicists a run for their money. otoh, your standard organic synthesis guy probably forgot all his stat mech and quantum because they never needed it for anything. like me. i remember "of" these things, i just couldn't write a partition function to save my life.
