Why should we?

If you mean by way of influencing our direction of writing, that would hardly be a major change, as there have been many different ways of writing.

Some examples are of course some of the east asian writing systems which are read top to bottom, right to left.
Another example is boustrophedon style of writing, in which the orientation changes every line.

And then there are some scripts written in a spiral, from center outwards or towards the center.
