So /sci/, I'm an avid fan of sci-fi and I'd like to write some, but I'm just feeling that all of the popular sci-fi genres (aliens, robots, zombies, etc.) have been so overdone.
What are some cutting-edge science/sci-fi topics that are just starting to gain popularity now? For example, the genre of alien invasion was almost non-existent at the turn of the 20th century, and now look at it.

Well fuck, now that I think about it, a whole bunch of science shit has already been explored in the writings of the last 200 years

Maybe parallel universes, though the science behind that is shit

read an interesting short story in a book called 'Zuma blue' once about parallel universes it essentially came down to that with an infinite amount of universes there must be one where one person just cant die, mentioned things to do with the Schrödinger's cat experiment.
