I wanted to start off by saying I don't live in America, so the educational program is a bit different, as in, the programs and classes are named differently, and organized differently.

After finishing my basic education of science, which majors are Physics, Chemistry, and Physics, I can now choose a kind of "extra". Basically I can choose a specialization. I was wondering if choosing math is worth it. Now, I'm not a genius, though I have no trouble understanding, and I could probably make it through the course without too much trouble, but is it really worth it to study pure mathematics, or would I be better off by studying/specializing in Physics?

>which majors are Physics, Chemistry, and Physics
*facepalm*

i'm guessing you meant phys, chem, and biology?

maths is very physics related, i suggest doing it.

Yea, I meant Chemistry, Physics and Biology.
Also, I'm not quite sure what you meant with I should "do it". Do you mean do it, as in do pure maths, or do it, as in do physics.

>physics
34% of people who do physics phds have a job a year after completion
>math
87% of people who do a masters in math have a job one year after completion

I'm not 100% on these statistics but I'm not pulling it out of my ass.
It seems that math is better for getting a job, that is if you are into accounting and banking rather than the often misrepresented science jobs such as; polishing rocks, giving the 5 millionth type of moth discovered a latin name and the classic, approving harmful drugs which cause permanent damage to the brain as suitable for the treatment of mild psychological problems. You choose.

Well, I'm don't wish to study math to do accounting, or any form of economics, I am simply fascinated by it. I guess I could study math, and then during my next level of education, I could do some type of physics, or even, do more math there, and then study physics at a university.

read about the difference in pure vs applied math.

pure math is like art, youre never going to get a job about it, you have to do it because you love to and have the skills. I shouldn't say you'll never get a job about it, but you have to be ridiculous genius type to get anywhere with it, and you wouldn't be asking us if you really understood the field.

Applied on the other hand is closer to engineering, you learn how to solve problems, and everyone pays well for that.
