Don't get me wrong, this kid is well ahead of children his age, but once you remove his age from the equation his mathematical abilities and general intellect are nothing special and probably below a lot of people in his Uni classes (he's just younger).

Then you add in the fact that when most people see Uni level math they don't understand a bit off it and think it takes some sort of super genius to understand.

Mix all this together and you go from "kid who is ahead for his age" to "HOLY FUCK IT'S TONY STARK GENIUS EVERYTHING HE SAYS MUST BE TRUE BIG BANG IS WRONG XD STUPID ATHEISTS"

When I was 10 I would read books about outer space and rocketry all day long. I borrowed a book from the library about astrodynamics and saw the math it contained and I asked my dad if I could move up in classes since my math was too easy and I wanted to learn the higher level stuff so I could build rockets.

He beat my ass and told me to shut the fuck up. That 5 minutes of beatings taught me a much more valuable lesson than the extra math ever could have, and that's exactly what that kid needs. He's gonna' have such a sense of identity confusion in 10 years when things pan out and he realizes he's not in a glorified spotlight anymore, and all his peers are a lot more soberly minded and experienced than him.

I am fascinated how almost not a single of this so called "prodigy" kids end up with nobel prices. Nobel price winners are almost exclusively kinda normal guys. Leonard Suskind worked as a plumber with his dad ffs and received a Phd on a normal age of 25 . Feynman was just above average in highschool 125 iq (i had 130) and he was great (greatness which i can only dream to achieve). Hawkin was " he was a good, but not exceptional, student". Big Bang theory only says this:

The Universe is expanding

Therefore at some point in the past it was smaller and hotter than it was now

At some point before that it was so hot and small that everything we know, all the laws, break down, and for all intensive purposes the Universe "began" then for us because nothing that happened before that point has any effect on anything afterwards and we can never know what existed before hand.

I've seen his videos they're unspectacular, he just does some elementary calculus which Wow's Joe Public because he's never heard of an "x" or a "Cow Sign" before.

The story here is that a child with asperger syndrome was born and was really good at mathematics, and I assume most other subjects too, and was accepted to a university at a very young age. As soon as he was designated as "really really smart" by not just his peers but also adults he likely got cocky and started to question things that he doesn't have a full understanding of.

The story has appeal obvious if appropriately sensationalized.

Focus is part of intelligence. I have ADD. I have trouble reading paragraphs without losing my train of thought. I don't judge my own intelligence by everything except my mental shortcomings. How can I tell when my son is sick for real or just faking it?

Here are some symptoms I've observed over the past 2 years:

-Cough: There's usually 3-4 different patterns for when he coughs each time. For example: loud-short-short, or short-wheeze-short-short.

-Headache: Usually on the right side of the head, near the temple.

-Sore throat: His voice always sounds like an old man whose nasal passages are clogged. Very raspy.

Whenever he says that his body feels cold but his head feels hot, his face is red. He never claims to have a fever, though.

My ambition hasn't gone anywhere, and my curiosity has been replaced with sobriety. Learning how not to sensationalize the sciences and approach them instead with respect and discipline has made me into a much more balanced and rational person, I think. How do you think he's going to feel when he's out of gradschool and can't show off to/impress his peers because they've got 20 years of intuition and experience to go from?

This kid's probably building a lot of his self identity on "Wow I'm really smart as such a young age"-- I venture to guess he'll be very confused when he enters an environment that contests those values, and probably feel very insecure emotionally. I know I would have, in his shoes.
