why do charges move perpendicular to a magnetic field in a coil of wire if the coil is moving? why do they not go in the direction/opposition of the magnetic field?

Because

Does it have to do with the flux? My best guess after taking general physics 2. Flux always moves perpendicular...

yes, but on the subatomic level, what happens that causes this?

yes, yes, that's all known.

why do the charges move perpendicular to the magnetic field, though?

if the flux is flowing in some direction, the charge always flows perpendicular to it, according to the lorentz force. when a photon hits an electron (the photons are flowing back and forth in the direction of flux), what makes the electron go sideways?

That is what happens to a subatomic particle. It can be derived from an action principle or from the classical limit of the quantum mechanical description, but in the framework of Newton's laws you just have to take it as a given.

that's insane, it isn't logical
i know feynman would say "if you don't like it, go somewhere else", but what the hell? there has to be a reason that the direction of magnetic flux propagates in a completely different direction

The magnetic field is just a byproduct of special relativity and the electric field.

It really is just the electric field being extremely fucking warped. If you understand how to derive the "illusion" of the magnetic field from SR, then it will be evident why it possesses the fucked up properties it does.

Here, have a pretty sweet article.
