If science is the map, literature and philosophy is the compass.

Science show us how things are, philosophy orientates us within it.

Elaborate on how it is a tool; what's it's function and what it is physically (or literally). The Map, to have a correlation, would need to be similar; and I presume that no Human has knowledge of the whole Universe (which is 'The Map'); so how does that relate?
