If anyone read up on him extensively, they would know his PHD came from formulating an early form of string theory, a potential Theory of Everything (TOE). But, the issue is, with a TOE, if there is a single exception to the predictions of the model, the entire model is useless except as a mathematical plaything.
String theorists are like alchemists were, when humans were beginning to truly understand chemistry. They are desperately modifying their models to fit the exceptions that keep popping up, the way they do this is add more and more compact dimensions. What this means, simply put, is that string theory is a generalization of both quantum mechanics and relativity. But there are holes in string theory. They patch these holes by further generalizing the existing theory, to more and more dimensions, creating mathematical explanations for the things it could not previously explain. This is why you hear about 6, 11, 26, etc dimensional superstring theory. There's even M-Theory which brings it to another level, abstracting the concept of 'strings' to membranes, which allows more phenomena to be explained (such as pre-big-bang conditions, which by the very nature of the big bang [it is surrounded by an event horizon before it creates time/space/energy] is an absurd and untestable statement that is pure conjecture).

>michio kaku

I don't know anybody that gives a fuck about him.

>> No.3720119

Anyways, back to Mr Kaku. While he is an expert orator, he doesn't even BEGIN to approach Carl Sagan or Richard Feynman, or even Neil Degrasse Tyson in his eloquence, communications skills with the common man, and his capacity to spark interest in science. And what i mean by 'science' in that last sentence are theories that can be falsified by experiment. All of the predictions made by string theory (after all of the corrections applied to it to make it fit observation) are untestable because they require entire galaxies worth of energy densities to be crammed into a space smaller than a cube that is 1 planck length on each side. Verification of the string theoretical predictions would also require the uncertainty principle to be violated, because it would require observation without interaction, which we are currently incapable of.

All I want to know is why has he been embraced so heavily by 'the science crowd'? I used to listen to coast to coast AM for all the absurd alien encounters and strange claims made by people who sound like they're a little bit imbalanced, but I stopped listening after the 4th time Dr Kaku was on the show, because he would actually rationalize these callers delusions with statements like 'the probability that it could happen is very small but it is not impossible.'
If you know statistics or probability or have a general understanding of quantum mechanics, you would understand that all he did there is try to sell a book to a potential reader by telling them what they wanted to hear while not actually telling a lie.

Black point of view? You mean have your ancestors captured by rivaling African tribes then sold to people that later emancipate you but lack the common courtesy to appreciate the fact that if it wasn't for them you would be a slave back in Africa. Then always cry racism as an excuse for personal failures or when someone points out the fact that deGrasse Tyson is only famous because he's black, notice how the last guy at that planetarium is unknown. Oh my god, I can't believe people still think that minorities are held back because of "white racism." That's a pretty tough sell considering these facts:

1. Blacks and Hispanics need only a fraction of the qualifications of whites to get jobs or an education. Affirmative action.

2. Asians have been historically mistreated almost as much as blacks. The Japanese were literally in concentration camps. Yet Orientals tend to have higher incomes than whites on average!

3. Heritable IQ differences between races, and their effect on academic success.

4. Black nations that have NOT been colonized by whites are actually worse off than those which whitey has occupied.

It can be argued that black holes bend or break the first law of thermodynamics. They are not actually destroying energy or matter but it may be becoming inaccessible and it's ability to generate new data may be irreversibly diminished. There is little evidence to the contrary.

The laws of thermodynamics began like any other scientific theory, with observation. Over time the lack of a counter evidence galvanized theory into law. All of this occurred before the discovery of black holes. Now that they have been discovered and backed by evidence, we must now go back and amend the theory based on new observation instead of trying to weasel our way out of it with wild theories.
