Hey /sci/, I've come to realize that humanity is pretty awesome. I keep seeing pop culture spit out how evil humans are (mainly regarding environmental concerns) and how we'll all die soon in WWIII because of official incompetence. My belief is that humans are the most intelligent and powerful beings in the observed universe. We have yet to find evidence of artificial energy release on the magnitude of an atom bomb outside of our species. I just wanted to ask if anyone has links to essays that preach the virtues of our species.

Before you come with "but look how much death we've caused!": I grant you that isn't anything to be proud of per se, but the simple fact that we have the ability to do such catastrophically large and practically permanent things speaks volumes to our superiority.

Everything humans do is a selfish act to increase the odds of the survival of their own genome.

Nothing really matters because everything will end in death sooner or later anyway.

Unless quantum mortality exists, that is.

We breathe a gas that corrodes metals and reacts with nearly everything to survive, and we live rather unprotected under the glare of a massive fusion reactor.

Humanity ain't too bad.

Shut up and drown in your nihilism.

Finite things have value BECAUSE they are fleeting.

Have you forgotten that most of the people on earth live in grinding poverty? Scientific accomplishments have failed to serve the least among us. Fuck you.

Is that a bad thing? An organism's primary responsibility is reproduction of its species. In the book "On Human Bondage", a character explains quite nicely how selfishness isn't only not evil, but prevalent in every human action. Oh, and look up the origin text for "Lorem Ipsum" which also deals with this. Also, fuck off with your sage.

Not necessarily Transhumanism (since that's leaving the Homo sapiens sapiens bracket) but "Humanity: Fuck Yeah!" I can agree with.

Ah, the Existentialist Dilemma. Kierkegaard explains why we shouldn't just all kill ourselves now. Go out and read more.

Not only that, who remembers the Green Revolution? Malthusian catastrophe was averted and that would have been pretty hard on the poor.

Making everything nice for everyone is not the objective of science. It is merely to learn. Good things always come from knowledge though, but that doesn't make it the responsibility of science to make things good. The avarage quality of life is up to politicians, and considering they are probably the least competent members of humanity that are still emplyed
it's no surprise that global utopia hasn't been achieved.
