Here's the problem pseudo-knowledgeable troll. Astrology is bullshit because the predictions it makes are vague and could apply to most people. The predictions of the MBTI are highly specific. The personality profile of an INTJ would only apply to a small segment of the population, the test can match this segment of the population with the INTJ description; proving it is not bullshit.

In other words, you can have Ni and Ti, most descriptions of Ni include 'noticing patterns' and 'enjoying symbolism' which people who score INTP do too, only to a lesser extent. Ti is described as 'wanting to understand the underlying rules behind things' 'love of daydreaming' which INTJs also do.

ENTJs fucking fail! It must be empowering to be so demanding of others all the fucking time. (sarcasm) Insecure faggots! Extraversion by definition is having to be accepted by others so you can feel good about yourself. That sounds rather pitiful considering the supposed confidence of ENTJs.

>> No.3707297

>>3707258

Extroversion is also being able to convince others to subsume their wants and needs to your own by convincing them yours have a higher perceived importance.

This is a basic definition of leadership as well, and most leaders who are worth a damn are extroverted. Especially in countries with a democratic system, as extroversion is basically a requirement to gain power.

Extroverts encompass politicians, lawyers, CEOs, managers, public relations, journalists, military officers, celebrities, pretty much every person with any level of importance on a large scale.

Scientists of course are an exception, but even then the ones that tend to get the most public notice are extroverts, Dawkins, Sagan, Degrasse Tyson, etc.

ENTJ-types have an uncontrolable drive to take charge and lead other people to victory. It is less wishing others to appreciate them, and more wishing to see those you consider your people succeed under your guidance. For this reason it is dubbed 'The Fieldmarshel'. ENTJs make a good counter-weight to INTJs by getting shit done in the field while still having the qualities needed to analyze the situation and forge a plan in the heat of the moment.

>> No.3707330

This.

I don't feel a need to be accepted, I feel an urge to organize and drive towards goals. The ENTJ understands and empathizes with the INTJ while trying to harness his/her/their power and personality towards mutually beneficial goals. It's less a need for adoration than a drive to organize which tends to typecast us as "leaders".

Granted, MBTI is bullshit akin to astrology but it's fun to occasionally indulge.

>MBTI is bullshit akin to astrology

Not akin, identical. They both work on two basic systems.

First: they make only superficial statements, but disguise them as deep insights.

Second: they choose a positive phrasing for everything, "Fieldmarshall", "Champion", "Performer", none of them are "Jackass" or such. It turns out that if you throw a random bunch of phrases together, call them a personality type, and give them a positive spin something like 70% of people will agree that it's an accurate description of who they are. Psychologists call it the Forer or Barnum effect.

Feynman, Newton, Oppoenheimer, Tycho Brahe, Aristotle, Galileo, most Enlightenment scientists.

Keep in mind, for a long period a scientist only got to have time to do research and such by becoming connected with a higher member of society who provided the funding for his experiments, as in the case of Galileo, or was a popular man in his or her own right, as is the case with Tycho Brahe or Newton. These people would throw parties, provide public examples of experiments (especially popular in France) and similar events.

All arguably extroverted. The introvert scientist is a fairly new trope.

My immunology professor wanted to be a "rockstar scientist" so badly. He wanted to have big parties where he unveiled his results, he said publishing was good but just too boring.

I remember seeing him at a biology department function that was catered and had an open bar. He was half drunk, telling some story about how he voluntarily had a botfly implanted into his arm to study its immunological effects to potential donors, and his wife was astonishingly hot.

While publication and peer review have a place, I think we need more rockstar scientists. Not exactly popularizers, mind you, but actual researchers taking very public pride in showing off their research.

You don't understand introversion and extroversion.

An extrovert can be bad at socializing and an introvert can be good at it. Social skill is not what they signifies. They signify want and need to socialize.

An a very extroverted person would be fine being around others all day and would have feel very depressed when they are not around others for an extended period of time. An introvert would feel exhausted if left around others for too long and has no problem with extended periods of time by oneself.

If you are just trolling then do what you gotta do. These threads are usually circlej**ks anyway... no offense.

You have to read each result in reference to the opposite. Sensing vs Intuitive is relevant in that an intuitive focuses on events through their meaning, while sensing types focus on their experiences of the event.

"I remember that concert because the floor was sticky, and it smelled like smoke"

"I remember that concert because all those jackasses were smoking, and the floor was covered in beer"

It doesn't mean that they didn't experience the same event in a similar manner, or that the sensing didn't know that it was beer that caused the sticky floor. It's just that the tendency to lead with one or the other determines the MBTI letter.

External validation can also come in the form of factual information. Performing experiments and recording the results as opposed to thought experiments and hypothetical situations.

"Thinking you're right isn't the same as being right." Would be a heavily J statement.

Extraversion/introversion not only come from behavioral characteristics. They stem from differences in brain function. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extraversion#Biological_factors

Also, this:
http://news.bio-medicine.org/medicine-news-2/Brain-Activity-Differs-In-Introverts-And-Extroverts--UI
-Study-Shows-11092-1/

>The PET scans revealed that introverts have more activity in the frontal lobes of the brain and anterior, or front, thalamus. These areas are activated when a person's brain takes on internal processing such as remembering, problem solving and planning. Extroverts exhibit more activity in the anterior cingulate gyrus, temporal lobes and posterior thalamus. These areas are typically thought to be more involved in sensory processing such as listening, watching or driving.

That is what I would have expected. Introverts can entertain themselves mentally hence them being alright alone for longer periods of time. Introverts prefer being occupied by the stuff happening around them.

I would imagine such brain activity is more a result of how their personality has developed rather than something one is born with. Then again the traits that one is born with influence how one interacts with the world and thus also how personality develops. It's a chicken and the egg problem.

>> No.3709083

The test I took asked a lot of questions about what I would rather do or something like that. What if someone had an idea of what an ideal person would be and answered by what that ideal person would be instead of what he or she would actually do? For example, one may say they would rather jump in front of a bullet to save someone else but when push comes to shove there would be little chance of that person actually doing it?

I think most 4channers are actually probably INTP, ENTP, and then INTJ (xNxJ types are the rarest) and people get mis-typed as INTJs constantly

the personality tests aren't reliable because they are based on self-report which is...pretty fallible

but Carl Jung was a genius psychologist and his ideas regarding personality types were profoundly clairvoyant

MBTI is kind of a framework that stole his ideas and oversimplified them

>> No.3709249

good guess, because the movie version of Sherlock Holmes played by Robert Downey Jr. is definitely INTP. But that's just how he plays geniuses (you'll see that his type in Iron Man is also INTP). The fictional version of Sherlock Holmes is almost definitely ISFJ or ISTJ; the whole concept of Sherlock Holmes thoroughly revolves around Introverted Sensing (the means by which Holmes notices slight clues that indicate much larger patterns)
