So, when you take a definite integral, we could say it is "protected" by the limits given. When the integral is indefinite, it becomes "unprotected" so to speak, as there are no given limits, and a constant must be added. There is also the fact that the antiderivative of e^x is e^x, therefore the indefinite integral of e^x is e^x + c (where c is constant)

In other words: unprotected ʃe^x leads to an unwanted constant
