Money is forged from the pelts of newly born baby seals. Their clubbing is vital to the survival of modern society.

Money serves as a viable means of performing exchanges of goods. Money itself is not all that valuable: it's typically comprised of some sort of fabric or common metal. What gives it its value is a population's idea of what it's worth; that is, its value is entirely imaginary.

So then how do you know what your money's value is compared to other money? I hear people use different kinds of money.

>> No.3658083

The value isn't imaginary. It's agreed upon.

I'm no economist, but I don't think it's too big a stretch to find a common currency value for a particular type of good (eg. gold). If gold is worth X many dollars, and it's worth Y many simoleans, that would be the "exchange rate" between those two currencies.

>> No.3658090

its all because the barter system (i do something for you and you do something for me) didn't make everyone be able to services on an equal basis. money made it so someone with no skills could still get services they needed. it really messed up the world economy.

Greater faith in the value that kind of money as opposed to another. The amount of currency that's actually in a given economy also has some bearing on its worth, but again, I'm no economist.

I'm just going to say that economics, is just as scientific as psychology (which is hardly a science at all). It can be however be described as an "experimental science." Think about it.

>> No.3658172

>>3658166
It's experimental alright.
