I thought we used to have a board for programming...

Anyway, first year comp sci faggot here, I thought this shit would be all cool and more about problem solving through algorithms and less applied mathematics. did they lie to me, do real comp sci majors need to be naturally adept at math and able to grasp high concept abstract algebra?

because i'll shoot myself in the face right now and try for art school.

ps yeah recursion's cool

CS (computer science) is a very applied field of mathematics.

Get over it.

If you use recursion in programming, you've failed.

and the worst part is that it all gets outsourced to indians who will work for pennies anyways.

I'm willing to get over it if there's someone out there that started this not being awesome at math, applied themselves, and some how still managed to make it through.

Because I know chemistry is meant to fail people if you aren't on your shit with math. Is CS?

nice doubles, but untrue.

While some plain programming jobs are sent to India, programming alone is only a part of CS is.

As for jobs, US supply of programmers doesn't meet the demand and many companies hire programmers from over the seas because they can't find the local. Real programmers with degrees. Not the ones that list HTML, CD-ROM technologies and 10 years of experience with Windows 2008 server on their resume.
