/sci/, I'm confused. My roommate believes in good/bad "energies", crystals, pineal gland = third eye, and so forth. She doesn't try to push it on me, but I still feel she's being condescending when I talk about empirical evidence. What do?

>> No.3563376

If they understand what empirical evidence is and don't believe it leads to truth then they are a lost cause.

Stop being a douche and talking about it might be a start? Let her believe whatever she wants

We do and I don't assault her about it. I just feel bad some people believe in goofier shit than sky deities. Whatever, she's an adult.
Maybe we should talk about crystal lattices instead?

we have over 14 senses, tell her ESP isn't one of them

"The spiritual dimension is your core, your center, your commitment to your value system. It's a very private area of life and a supremely important one. It draws upon the sources that inspire and uplift you and tie you to the timeless truths of all humanity. And people do it very, very differently." - Sean Covey, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, as referenced in "Engineering Your Future," my ENGR 101 Textbook.

Basically, let her live her life. Stop trying to make her think different.

Some people are stupid. This is one form stupid people express their stupidity:

Believing things for which there's no credible evidence, which does not survive any degree of testing.

And this is always, always a dangerous thing. It leads to horribly bad decisions.

Can't in B4 when it already happened. And I'd say 99% of us inferior humans believe in something supernatural or unorthodox, just for the sake of believing. Even if we adhere strictly to the Socratic, Scientific, and/or Analytic Methods.

To be fair, by expanding inner peace and tranquility, good energy helps to reduce uncontrollable, self-deprecating, mental clutter allowing for a greater connection to our "higher" or true selves often called our "higher" consciousness.

Some people worship His Noodly Appendage, and that's fine. They see no reason to prove it, no reason to certify it exists. They know full well that his Sauciness is probably a fabrication of their own fucked up psyche. And yet, they believe. They believe because they choose, because they want to believe. And that's OK.

No, we don't.

Some can leave it at "suspect" which is different from believing insofar as that is on the stack of things to verify and not to rely on very much in the meantime.

The belief as described by Op is already employing it. Without any objective analysis of success or look into other people's science to go along with it and evaluate efficiency.

No, it helps to make people prefer shaman science bullshit over medicine and far more such crap that does not work.

You can live better without misinterpreting reality, as that opens the way to finding real solutions to problems other than eating expensive ground rock and stuff where it clearly is not going to help.
