It's just burden of proof. Chris argues that people who have a "solid scientific perspective" on life are close minded. But that's an entirely empty assertion. Because (1) he doesn't bother to suggest anything "beyond" science that is/might be true and (2) the scientific perspective *is* intrinsically open minded. If you can support a claim with sufficient evidence, no matter how bizarre said claim might be, it will be accepted.

Pointing out that the burden of proof lies on whoever is making some new claim (ie. something "beyond" science) is entirely reasonable. He tried to argue against it with empty pseudo-intellectual nonsense, so he fails the open-minded test automatically.
