This is what worries me. I've cruised through 10 years of compulsory school + 3 years of the equivalent of senior high (norwegianfag here btw) barely making an effort, yet always being top of my class and getting straight A's. Even if you consider yourself to be more intelligent than your team mates they can still potentially have a contribution to make, whether that is through different experience or a different balance of abilities. In true teamwork you still get credit for your work and you have the chance to be part of something you might not achieve on your own. I believe you haven't experienced teamwork on a great enough scale yet to appreciate this.

I can do 5 digit mental calculations in seconds, I fluently speak 7 languages (English/Spanish/German/French/Italian/Japanese/Greek), I can tell you the history of any European country including their rulers and their year of birth and death, I can tell you the day of the week for any date in the past 2000 years and in the future, I can recite pi to 5000 decimals and I can memorize 1000 more decimals in less than 1 hour, I can read a 200 page book in a little more than 10 minutes, I can draw any picture at a scale of 2 to 1 just by glancing it for a few seconds (I'm usually of by a few millimeters in some places), and the list goes on....

Agreed. I haven't met someone who is smarter than me, I have just met people who have large amounts of data about a certain subject matter memorized. They have not made their own opinions, they have not created their own major ideas, they just know how to memorize stuff they have an interest in. It's like knowing a lot about philosophy but not developing your own hypothesis/theories and not coming up with new "stuff." It's like knowing a programming language and just rewriting an old program in a different way doing the same thing.

Intelligence is being able to be logical but it is also about being able to work with complexity and create complexity. Intelligence is about creation. Making music, writing books, making programs, building space ships, that is what intelligence is about. Intelligence is about building a new computer program, or creating your own philosophical ideas that are not from some 100 year old dead due. Memorizing junk is not intelligence.

Alas, I don't appear as intelligent as I feel I am. I work with ideas in my head, but I cannot transpose them into English as well as I want. That is why some people don't understand me and don't view me as intelligent.

You are right, it has a lot to do with intuition, without intuition you cannot deal with complex ideas as easily and you cannot generate new ideas. A good point to make is there's generally two classifications of intelligence:

Crystalized Intelligence - Basically "memory" intelligence. How much can you remember, how easily can you acquire memories, and how well can you get them out?

Fluid: General intelligence, focuses more on short-term memory and memory processing over the memories itself. Generally learning something new begins with Fluid intelligence determining how well they can grasp it and use the stimulations presented, while crystal intelligence determines how well they remember it.

A good example would be someone who was good at FPS games vs someone who does heavy reading. Generally reading is dominated by semantic processing and rote memory, while FPS games are dominated by processing. Someone can have both, like if they were reading technical documents and were expert, both in theory and practice of various machineries, but most people are better in one area than the other, usually falling along gender lines, females have better crystalized intelligence on average, while men have better fluid intelligence, not to say these are inherent factors, just what adults are raised to be useful in, generally.

First guy here, probably, but I think the problem is that "smart" is a very, very arbitrary term. We consider literary masterminds, philosophers and history buffs "smart" when it's all very different forms of "intelligence".

But the pretentious douchebags are probably pretty smart, too. I can honestly say this has not happened. I have not yet met a black person who is more intelligent than me in person. Or a hispanic person. Asians, sure, but in my experience Asians are incredible at math and science but cannot grasp the English language beyond a mechanical level. They have no concept of style.

There is nothing obsolete about having a biological ability that likely puts him in the top 1% for certain tasks. Human evolution is constantly striving towards these ends. Even if he was an autistic savant and had no other cognitive abilities at all he would be valuable for having talented genes to pass down. His skills probably translate well on an IQ test. On a creativity test he would likely come up with unique ideas too. Since there is value in diversity your claim of him being 'obsolete' is very pretentious.

On certain parts of one, yes. That's because skill at computation and rapid memorization tend to correlate with general intelligence. However, they themselves are not intelligence, otherwise we'd call computers super-intelligent. And of course, in humans that correlation is obviously not 100%, as autistic savants clearly demonstrate.
