When you sleep brain waves (electrical impulses) are extremely strong, which is why you're able to do more in your dreams.

The universe's magnetic field carries electrical impulses.

So taking the string theory into consideration, (the theory in which the magnetic field of the universe is kind of pulled down as your brain waves continue going straight.

This means time travel during dreaming, which explains why people sometimes have 'deja vu'.

You can only travel to the future in your dreams.

Brain waves are rhythmical fluctuations in the excitability of populations of neurons. During sleep, the amplitude of slower frequency oscillations is higher than during wakefulness, but this is not the reason you are able to 'do more', as you say. It merely reflects highly synchronized neuronal activity across large regions of cortex.
