Why do humans smile? No other animals smile, yet the smile is common to all human cultures. Where did that convention come from? Is it an evolutionary thing or a cultural concept that is taught?

an attribute of Consciousness, which is unique only to humans.

Well, chimps "smile" (bare teeth) as a sign of aggression, but humans do this to, as a anticapatory grimace. We can smile from pleasure or anger towards something.

Dogs also do this.

You know when you're really angry and you just laugh? Its kind of the same thing. Except it also works with happiness because one can be happy for different reasons: I.E: I'm so mad I shouldn't be smiling, but I'm doing to because I'm gonna fuck you up.

Im saying smiling in happiness and smiling (or laughing dissociatively in anger) are connected. People feel feelings of pleasure when getting revenge, etc. and they laugh. Laughing is connected to smiling.

Cause it ain't a troll moron.

A monkey smile is the same instinct as a human smile. We just happen to have more levels of abstraction to it, call it naunce. You'll still see the same thing.

A long long time ago we used to have big ass canine teeth, we used them to rip the throats out of potential sexual rivals and would bare them at everyone so they would know how awesome you where. One lovely throat ripping day some female said I don't like my man demanding sex so much I'm still sore form five minutes ago so she left and found some loaner out in wilderness he bore his pitiful teeth at her but instead of thinking 'what a man' she thought ill bet he's not such an ass. And that my friends is love.
