Matt Begley I met Carl Sagan when I worked at The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He was in a wheelchair, an orderly and his wife with him waiting for an elevator. We made eye contact and I said "Mr. Sagan, you are one of very few people I admire... I must have watched Cosmos billions and billions of times." (doing my best Carl Sagan impression) he smiled and laughed. He then nodded at me as he was wheeled away... his wife beamed at me. Carl Sagan died a few days later. A few weeks after that I received a thank you card from his wife. She told me that what I had said made her husband laugh for the first time in many months and for the last time in his life. Probably one of my best moments.

Stop crying you babies. Some guy made a guy with cancer laugh. Big deal. Patch Adams did that all the time.

Why would Sagan have been depressed? Cancer is also star stuff.

This doesn't add up.

He was dying of pneumonia and cancer. It tends to put a damper on you emotionally, just from the physical strain - the continual pain and exhaustion.

You assume the story is fiction. I do not believe this to be the case.

And you're fucking callous for acting this way. I hate sappy fictional chain-mail too, but only because it mocks the real emotional impact of REAL events.

And you're a fucking faggot for bawling like a little baby at an old man dying of cancer. Jesus, who cares? Tons of old men die everyday. I bet if you ever went into a hospital you wouldn't last 5 minutes before you wet your pants.
