While we're on the subject of unnecessary expenditures, how about all that foreign aid that goes toward stabilizing petty dictatorships and suppressing indigenous infrastructure development in poor countries? It's not just stereotypical gun-toting rednecks that are responsible for excessive spending on dubious causes. In fact, neo-liberals are probably even more guilty.
