there should be a process by which one could differentiate between the signal produced by the rods and cones in your eye. it seems to me thst you could force your perception to rely on only the cones.

speculate on how this might be accomplished.

Low light versus brightly lit.
All of these are biased towards rods over cones

if you take away the rods, then you have removed a continuous grayscale. the cones are an rgb system essentially, so your perception would contain an absolute black and relative white based on whatever the lightest thing in your perceptual field is. But it would be incredibly interesting if you were already in the dark.
