Economics: as much of a science as geography.

It's science. You guys are on a mindset of considering science only the experimental part, but as definition of trying to explain phenomena and predict it, it's so obviously science.

Social science. Like political science, public administration, history, and law. Economics. Geography too.

'social science' is just a term the liberal artsfags invented to make their bullshit seem legit

Seconded, although many UK and US institutes teach it as BA / MA, while in Europe the focus is more on (quantitative) research and it's thus a BSc / MSc.

It's funny that economic geography is a widely known subject, although the name sometimes shifts to geographic economics, or whatever.

People who let definitions shape their world view, actions and behavior are silly. Don't forget that definitions and meanings were assigned to words by man, i.e. - definitions are arbitrary and mean (or should mean) nothing in the practical sense.

In other words, you shouldn't give a shit whether X is to be categorized and defined as Y or not. What you should care about is whether you're interested in it, whether you can profit and live by studying it etc'.

Just my two cents.

geology is the science version of geography.
neuroscience is the science version of psychology

Geography is actually a wide field with both 'real sciences' and 'pseudo sciences'. GIS is a lot like computer science, has some physics (gravity models are widely used, for instance) and lots of mathematics on a higher level. Economic geography uses (for instance) economic and econometric theories and develops spatial models (other sub subjects to this too).

Wikipedia is wrong. Plain and simple.

Bullshit. You faggots claim that economics isn't a science for the sole reason that you are too dumb to understand it, then try and herd it with philosophy, art and other liberal bullshit subjects.

Not only does economics require more mathematics than 9/10 of your so called 'sciences', but it is far more relevant than the majority of them too.

There's a reason Nasa's funding has been cut, faggot.

Geology is not the 'science version of geography'. It's like comparing psychology with health care. Geography is its own field, although they're typically grouped together in universities because many geologists also feel that they're interested in some sort of social science and want to sound legitimate when voicing their opinions.

This.

Also, Economics is far more abstract than some other fields such as Chemistry and Engineering.

You're unbelievably stupid.

Probably just jelly that someone with an economics degree earns more in a couple of years than you will in your entire life.

Physics isn't a science, but physicists just claim it is to make themselves feel important.

Biology isn't a science, but biologists just claim it is to make themselves feel important.

I can do this all day long

I agree... Who the fuck cares if my field is listed as "science" in Wikipedia or not?

economics is like meteorology, except far less accurate.

How is no one raging over this, since it's geography is regarded as the father of a lot of sciences, both social and hard.

The truth is that there are a lot of bullshit subjects in any area. It bullshit-ratio does differ between the sciences, but that should not make a science less legitimate.

Human geography (one of the two major subjects in geography) uses insights from nearly all other sciences. The goal in the study of human geography can differ widely, but the more serious investigators focus on spatial patterns and distribution of phenomena. This typically involves lots of mathematics (statistics in testing hypotheses and in modeling different kinds of maths), theorizing (lending from economics, cognitive sciences, sociology and any other science needed to make a connection between phenomena).
