Trying to argue that love is not the strongest thing a human can feel, but self preservation is.
Help me prove?
Or if anyone has anything more powerful, eg. The need to reproduce or shit or whatever.

Disappointment.

>> No.3426171

General reality disassociation is probably 400,000 times stronger.

Disappointment? give me an example where it'd be more important to you than staying alive?

I like this one.
Any psychological opinions from people who've investigated it?

Ardour, Pride, Despair, Fear, Anger

>> No.3426184

You can't, in evolutionary terms we're better off passing on our genes than preserving ourselves. The desire to preserve ourselves only exists for the purposes of passing on our genes.

Our species.

So do i have a leg to stand on?
There are many more things that would get a greater response than love though, agreed?
>>3426184 so reproduction?

Define the strength of an emotion in a quantifiable way and we can get this discussion started.
Also, HA. That's a mildly amusing pic.

>hurr durr nobody would kill themself to save their partner because self-preserve derp

>> No.3426231

Strength of an emotion would be measured in either how long they can deal with it. eg direct fear stimulus compared to direct anger.
Alternatively how long people can go without it, or the impact going without whatever for a certain time.

That's the retaliation i'm afraid of.

Soooo, you're trying to argue against the existence of a phenomenon that you very well already realize exists?
Wat.

>> No.3426308

>>3426231
Under that definition, yes. You can't survive long without self preservation (duh).
But I think that that's a pretty weak way to define it.

>> No.3426332

What do you mean self preservation?
Are you ignoring the hundreds of stories of men and women or even children giving their lifes to save their loved ones?

>> No.3426337

love is effectively an example of indirect self-preservation

>> No.3426373

I thought humans had a more general feeling of preservation of species. In that sense, self preservation or love would depend on our own personal opinion of what would be best for our social group, wouldn't it?
