Sup /sci/. Pardon me for popping in, as I don't hang around here too much, but I had a question recently that I figured you guys would be best suited to answer. I know there are a lot of foundations and charities for solving specific scientific problems--donate to a cancer institute or whatever to help cure cancer, donate to educational organizations to help popularize science, and so on.

However, I want to help a specific scientific endeavor--specifically I want to see a functioning artificial womb in my lifetime. Unfortunately, I didn't major in biology, obstretics, or any field which would specifically help in creating such a device. I desperately want to aid in that endeavor in some way, however. I've heard researchers in South Korea and at Cornell have been performing experiments and reaching more and more success with artificial gestation in animals. Would it be possible to donate to the institutions they're a part of directly? Or do any of you know of any other organizations I could donate money to which would put it towards building the world's first artificial human womb? Thanks for your time.

You'll want to contact the development office, which probably also deals with stuff like alumni relations, at whatever institution you have in mind. How specific you can be about what the money goes to is going to depend on their policies and how big the gift is.

Also, any other suggestions? Are there any organizations anyone knows of specifically dedicated to the pursuit of artificial wombs, or even tangentially? Like, any transhumanist organizations or anything?

there is a woman in japan working on artificial wombs, so far only for rats because they wont give her permission to work with human fetuses. no success yet (last time i checked) because the hormone balance needs to be perfect and the hormone levels change alot depending on conditions. so far they've gotten from an embryo to a week or something, i cant remember, before the fetus starts deforming and dying.

Nope. I'm a man who wants to be able to propagate his genes without relying on a female.

Jordan caldwell, or is it cardwell?

Ugly as fuck!

As far as artificial embryo's go you can't create life. It is taboo voodoo and fucking alchemy.

Look up chemical autopoeisis. Why can't we get an even simpler model working to explain the origin of life then how could we possibly replicate an invention(pun inteneded) that took billions and trillions of years to evolve to where it is( being selected for in many many trials).

Absolutely not possible at the moment.

Idk but you gotta have hopeand faith. A day when nanotechnology and thr growing biotech programs and industries come to bring us machines the size of cells that act like cells. Or the chemical version to work there is an obvious flaw in the model or something missing if should work in theory but not in experiements

You know, it's kind of ironic--I hear "Men's Rights Activists" talk all the time about how artificial wombs are the answer to the Woman Problem, but I've never met one who actually knew anything about making them.

It may be irrational, but the goal of artificial wombs in and of itself isn't irrational. But fine, if there's really no other way I'll give money to a woman, if only for the knowledge that she's making her own gender obsolete. Can we get back to discussing how it would work and what we can do to help, now?

you are a terrible terrible thread starter.

i suggest
1. stop being a little cry baby bitch cause you want to have a kid but don't seem to understand not only how society works but how mating works

2. show some interest in tits or you won't get any feedback

3. use google you lazy fuck

4. word your question better (helps if you do number 3 before this)

5. you must be new here
