Can lucid dreaming cause damage to your sleep patterns leading to severe sleep deprivation?

probably not, unless when you try to lucid dream it causes you to wake up.

no, unless you wake up. Unlike a day dream, you can’t lucid dream while you are awake, so adequate sleep is absolutely vital. Another important thing to note is that you experience REM sleep (where dreaming occurs) longer as the night progresses, so you must be able to commit around 8 hours to sleeping

Its stated that the best time, or must successful time to lucid dream is when you wake up in the middle of the night, so I can see how that would effect your sleep schedule.

I strolled the internet and I found this file.

It show various actions, guidelines and tips concerning lucid dreaming.

Besides that I'd found this site, http://lucidity.com/, which provided me with some other information.

This left me with to more questions,
What benefits do I gain from lucid dreaming?
What are problems/negatives concerning lucid dreaming?
