How empty is the space between the planets really? It's not a perfect vacuum, is it?

I believe the average for the solar system went something like 12 particles per cubic meter in the earth's vicinity, raising or lowering as you got closer or farther to/from the sun, or so.

I believe that there is something around one atom of matter per cubic meter, chemistry teacher taught us this but can't vouch 100% for its accuracy.

Solar wind, charged particles, magnetic fields, space dust etc... And that's not count the minor planets.
