Hey /sci/ducks!
Was wondering why this happens.
I get a really cold drink from the freezer and its liquid but when i pour it it will become slush or freeze.
Comparably if I drop an icecube in the drink it insta freezes.

Why does this happen?

Wrong and inappropriate picture.

Someone says it doesn't before i deleted the original post, but i have seen it happen.

if you have taken it out of the freezer it will be warming up. it starts warming up as soon as you take it out.

Don't mind /sci/s resident retard.

it is a phenomenon known as supercooling, and it is quite common.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercooling

Responsible for ice build up on high altitude aircraft among other things.

Thanks, the other persons answer seemed pretty stupid because by his logic ice shouldn't excist anywhere because it might be warmer than its original place it was frozen :|

Like I said, resident retard. Doesn't even bother to read what is posted, just replies to every thread, usually several times in succession, with variations on "HURRDURR U DUM HERE'S SOME SHIT COMPLETELY UNRELATED TO WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT AREN'T I SMART NOW"

Best just to ignore the sad troll rejects from other boards that wash up here.

and OP, you said it starts as a liquid. If it is a liquid and is removed from the freezer then it is warming up and should stay as a liquid. it would have to be cooled further to be a solid.

Liquids tend to need something to kick start the freezing process. If you have a ceramic and really smooth cup, or something like that, you can actually chill water down to below its freezing point. Any sort of perturbation causes it to freeze.

I don't even begin to understand how the hell this works.

and you didn't even read the article the other guy posted which completely explains why this happens.

please just go to /b/ and gtfo this board.

Note how the stubbornness of your a given retard to latch onto an idea and never let it go.

Not also the tendency of the profoundly stupid to vastly overestimate their own competency in a given field, be it scientific knowledge or execution of simple tasks, e.g., sticking to the idea that "cold water warms up and doesn't freeze, therefore you dumb i smart", completely oblivious to the already given explanation for the phenomenon you're asking about.

Combine this with the troll's vernacular, camwhoring and tripfagging, and you see that this specimen of human waste is not worth your time.

Polite sage so as not to bump this thread.

Why EK why?
Why...

Just read the link posted.

How. Can. Someone. Be. That. Fucking. Stupid.

It's not only the retardation, it's the tripcode that makes it stand out.

At least on /k/ we now have kookookaDENIM...

lol, must be the butthurt aspie from the other thread, i must have touched a nerve.

>>3266226
on it, hun.
not heard of this before, sounds quite fascinating.
so dropping an icecube in causes instafreeze?

Dropping anything in does that. If it's in a bottle, simply smacking it against the table causes it to freeze. The water needs something to nucleate the freezing process, something to "freeze around", like more ice, a speck of dust, air bubbles, that kind of thing.

Those hand warmers that solidify when you snap a little metallic thing inside work in pretty much the same way.

Go to a youtube or something and search "supercooled water" to see this.

ITT: nerds who have never done BEER SCIENCE at a party.

1) Hide some beer BOTTLES in the deep freezer.
2) Let them stay there for a 3-4 hours.
3) In the middle of the party, grab one beer from the deep freeze and one from the regular fridge.
4) Open beers.
5) Give the frozen one to a girl, say "Cheers" and freeze the beer in her hand.
6) Magick.

Youtube has some vids I think.

For additional lulz let your victim try taking a sip from the beer. Instaslushee.

Doing that to beer should be a crime.

I do however attempt to make this happen with gatorade whenever possible.

Taking a sip that slushifies IN YOUR MOUTH is fucking awesome.

The salt and sugar content keeps it from completely crystallizing as well.

I tried it with soda and it didn't work.
