Hey /sci/, hopefully some of you are medfags or closer to it than me. What I thought might be an osteological problem, something I am familiar with, is actually something else I didn't expect.

I have pain in my right side, about halfway down the ribcage, whenever I reach about half lung capacity. I've been checking stuff online and I've narrowed it down to a excess gas buildup which apparently gets under and causes pain in the rib cage. I've been moving around, taking long breaths and holding them as long as I can with as much air as I can, which has every once in a while caused me to let out a small burp.

So, here is the question, the one I'll probably never ask again in my life.

What's the fastest way to release gas?

Without using medicine if possible. I hate taking medicine, it's against my personal ethos I guess, I like to deal with things naturally (not a hippie though).

You are just a horrible person

But i'm a good dude so i will help you.

>What's the fastest way to release gas?

Go to a hardware store, buy 10ft 1inch diameter plastic tube and stick that to you ass.

You can also use it to perform enema if you like. That should clear the pipes.

The fact that this question is so inherently stupid that I don't know where to begin. Some things your body can cope with and repair on its own, and some things NEED medications. Sure, overprescribing is bad, but being "against" medication is fucking retarded. You take it when you need it, no more, no less.

hang on guys. I think I know what OP means. When I get a headache I dont like to take a paracetamol unless I really, really fucking have to. There's nothing wrong with that kind of abstinence. Same with anti-biotics.

OP could you clarify? And please dont make me look like a fool.

Could be a collapsed lung, could be a broken/cracked rib. Could be many things. "Chest pain when breathing in" is a tad vague. Go see a doctor, a diagnosis will be more reliable if someone sees you in person. Don't go diagnosing yourself via Dr. Google.

Also,
>I hate taking medicine, it's against my personal ethos
Don't have this attitude, please.

The last time I took any kind of medicine was about 5 or 6 years ago.

My body seems to be "coping" just fine.

If this was a life of death situation where I needed medicine to perform something the body can't naturally, I would have asked for advice on what medicine to take.

However, this is just a case of getting rid of an annoying pain in my side.

Is this too big of a question for /sci/?

That's like asking how to change your oil blindfolded with both arms tied. Is it possible? Sure. Is anybody going to want to help you? No. So swallow your pride and use medicine or fuck off.

No, you just fail at reading.
Go see a doctor and don't trust google.
As i read your problem more carefully i realize that my idea to perform enema may not be the best solution. You might try using the tube in your lungs/stomach instead.

Look, it's stupid to say you're against taking medications. Yes, if your body can handle it, you shouldn't take medication unnecessarily. If there's a minor infection which your body can fight off, antibiotics are unnecessary (for that matter, taking just contributed to microbial resistance to antibiotics). If you can handle minor pain, there's no need to take painkillers. These are the reasons that, say, antiviral drugs such as neurominidase inhibitors aren't prescribed for common infections such as the flu. Sure, they may be effective, but they're unnecessary and may have more widespread negative consequences in the long run.

However, some medications need to be taken, because there's just no other option and your body CAN'T handle an infection on its own. You can't be "against medications", or the other extreme, taking medications for every minor problem. You have to consider each individual situation and act accordingly. It's not as clear cut as having a choice between natural response and pharmaceuticals which is appropriate in every situation you'll come across.

I'm 95% sure it has to do with gas after looking at all of the stuff online.

It's about halfway down the rib cage, in the front before the curve up to the sternum and in the back a few inches before the vertebrae.

Because of that, I figure the chances of a single location break or dislodged rib head are pretty low.

Partially collapsed lung, atypical pneumonia, or the most likely is probably a bruised/cracked rib or cramp/spasm in your intercostal muscles.

Gas in that cavity outside the lung is generally not a minor thing that just goes away, and is usually due to serious conditions.

For the love of god, don't do this. Do you know how much shit doctors go through because of self-diagnosing patients who think the internet knows best?

Get a professional opinion, that's all I'll tell you.

You know, now that I think about it, in comparison to how much teenage angst you have built up inside of you, this gas problem is starting to look pretty minor in comparison.

You may have unintentionally helped after all.

Thanks bro

That could be any of the things mentioned in this thread. Collapsed lung, broken/bruised rib, pneumonia, gallbladder problems, and a fuckload of other things. You have to understand that "pain when breathing in" is far too vague to made any sort of diagnosis. You really should see a doctor. Don't rely on the internet and don't self-diagnose.

I can't remember if it was earlier this week or last weekend on Saturday. Whenever it started it just felt like I slept on my side wrong.

It had kind of gone away since then, but yesterday and today it has built up more so than it was a first.

I just got the hiccups after drinking a bunch of water and then had to burp a few times.

It feels like it's going away slowly, the front doesn't sting anymore, just the back.
