Sherlock Holmes is probably one of the most intelligence fictional characters without superpowers. Yet rather than applying his incredible intellect to a scientific or mathematical pursuit, he instead applied it to crime solving.

Is detectivry really as edifying for the mind as Doyle/Holmes makes it out to be? I would imagine the average person would do just fine at being a police detective.

Also, to incite some more interesting conversation, what do you think are the most intellectually challenging and stimulating hobbies/careers someone can have?

thats like saying the world would have been a better place if batman had applied his mind to science.

sherlock holmes is not a real person, hence psychology of the character plays no part in the decisions he makes, only the psychology of the writer, who must have thought that crime solving was as you have put it edifying for the mind.

You are at the stage where you feel the need to show off your intelligence by pursuing interests and hobbies that are regarded intellectual.

I advise you to just finish high school and enter university, life is alot more different there.

Err, no. I want a discussion, then I'm going to go back to playing videogames all day erry day like I already do. If I had friends to show of my intelligence to you might be right, but I don't.

What? I wasn't questioning his decision, I was asking if detectivry is really as intellectually stimulating as he makes it out to be.

Philosophy OP. Don't let any of these shitbags tell you otherwise. Science can be pretty interesting, but philosophy is the grandfather of though.
