We're social creatures, we empathize with others, feel what they're feeling, mirror neurons and shit. When we see an action performed by other people our motor areas activate in ways that are not unlike what would happen if we performed the action ourselves. Evolutionary, this is important for learning new behaviors and for group functioning.
