actually americans didn't really have much to do with it and neither did the spanish. america inherited the word from when they were english, and mispronounced the name of an unrelated german coin using that word to describe a spanish coin, which we would now call a spanish "dollar". it's not a dollar in spanish, it comes from the german coin the "thaler". english people called the spanish coin a spanish "taler" or "daler". because they were retards. then their retard children founded america.
