Hey, /sci/entists.

I am somewhat of a caffeine-junkie. Being so, I believe I have built up some resistance to the chemical. Tonight I want to pull an allnighter, but I don't know exactly how much caffeine is needed to keep me awake.

I know that 300mg is enough to get me all jittery and hyper, but that is pretty much the extent of my knowledge.

Does the quantity neccessary to keep me awake vary by weight and body type, or perhaps age?

I also know the biological half-life of caffeine, approximately 4.9 hours.

Will you help me do research so I can perfect my dose intake? I'd be extremely grateful if you did.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffein

Caffeine tolerance develops very quickly, especially among heavy coffee and energy drink consumers. Complete tolerance to the sleep disruption effects of caffeine develops after consuming 400 mg of caffeine 3 times a day for 7 days. Complete tolerance to subjective effects of caffeine was observed to develop after consuming 300 mg 3 times per day for 18 days, and possibly even earlier.[29] In another experiment, complete tolerance of caffeine was observed when the subject consumed 750–1200 mg per day while incomplete tolerance to caffeine has been observed in those that consume more average doses of caffeine.[30] In everyday terms, the typical caffeine content of a single cup or mug of tea or coffee is well below the 300 - 400 mg level: an average mug of instant coffee contains approximately 100mg caffeine, the same level as a cup of brewed coffee. An average mug of tea contains 75mg of caffeine. [31]

Sure, Google/Wiki helped me so far. I still don't know the comfortable quantity for myself.

My question should rather be: What do you feel is comfortable, and what kind of body type are you?

Starbucks coffee contains ~250mg a cup.

A significant minority of people are caffeine slow metabolisers.
Caffeine tends to last much longer for them.

You seem to be under the illusion it's possible to obtain any of these easily. Caffeine does the same thing.

I read somewhere that every 5 hours on average, you body metabolizes about half of the total caffeine in your system completely, so every 4-5 hours, refresh your buzz with another ~150mg.

Are you sure? Wiki implies that the half-life is 5 hours.

what's up with all you guys.

100mg is a perfect dose. 150mg clouds my mind but is fun (good with alcohol but too much for study).
75mg is a 250ml can of energy drink.

Maybe i just have shit caffeine tolerance despite taking it a lot.

I think I agree with you, 100mg is just enough.
