What if we invented a gas that could tell us about anything it came into contact with?

For example, let's say there was a room you wanted to know the dimensions of without physically measuring it. You release this gas in the room and it would get into all the corners and cranny's of it. It would transmit this information to a computer and would give you everything you wanted to know about it. After a while the gas would dissipate and "die" off without leaving a mark on the space. Wouldn't that be cool?

Gas doesn't die off without a trace. Heavy particles form dust. And anything else just spreads out so much that only trace amounts can be detected. You're talking about using little machines. I'd rather not breathe in tiny electronics.

We don't need something like that because we can do math. Or just use lasers.

yeah, cool.

How would the gas "transmit" the information ? It's just a lot of particles.

1) seal off room
2) pump gas into room until whole room filled with gas
3) get initial pressure, final pressure, and moles
4) calculate

right, I was thinking of timed nano-machines that would stay alive just long enough to do the job we wanted and would disintegrate without causing harm to the environment. Trillions of them in a space that would envelop the object and send to a computer it's dimensions and a 3d mapped image of what it is.

What if we invented a 4chan that didn't have people posting stupid shit on it?
