Why is no one talking about this?

It's about time they got some work done.
Found that God Particle yet guys?

Because this is /sci/. No science allowed, only religion or troll threads please.

they're all slowing progress down as much as possible so they can all get paid longer, there's no other jobs for physicists.

Wait isn't this the plot to Angels and Demons?

>Antimatter successfully trapped
This isn't news. People have been trapping antimatter for decades.

They're doing good work on trapping more of it for longer, but it's still a long way from being useful outside of the lab, and it's not like it's the first time anyone has done it.

They've been able to trap it for some time but just not for 1000+ seconds until now.

Decades might be a bit stretched, but yeah, ALPHA and ATRAP have been doing their schtick for quite some time now, allowing for nice high-precision spectroscopy of anti-hydrogen.

Some of these guys are pretty assholes, though, fuck everyone over at the AD meetings...

I can't wait for animatter weapons. I know they're impractical because getting all that animatter to uniformly annihilate instead of just blow apart is tricky.

Antimatter catalyzed staged fusion warheads though could practically make for small and incredibly powerful weapons... if we can figure out how to miniaturize the storage.

>> No.3187310

Antimatter doesn't really void out matter, though.
It only converts both to pure energy, with the equation E=mc^2

>> No.3187353

>>3187310
Sounds like I can build a bomb with that

>> No.3189475

>>3187353

yes, it would be insanely powerful. and literally no fallout, no nasty residues or side effects. pure energy.

>> No.3189498

So can antimatter show some anti-gravity proprieties? That would be pretty cool

>> No.3189509

>>3189475
Impractical. But useful none the less.

the effects of gravity on antimatter is still being tested, but it's probably the same as matter

dude, with 10 grams of antimatter you can make an explosion as powerful as the Hiroshima bomb.

please go back to /b/

>> No.3189523

You faggots are retarded, anti-matter is simply the exact opposite of matter, with the protons acting as electrons and electrons as protons.

good luck getting 10 grams of antimatter without a massive particle accelerator and the GDP of several countries

10 g of antimatter is non-trivial son. Its easier to say fuck all and use the nuclear bomb instead.

>> No.3189537

Yeah.... just go get 10 grams of ani-matter

fucking idiot, do you even know what impracticle means?

This is still a significant milestone. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, OP.
