In electricity, ground (that symbol) represents the negative terminal of the battery. The positive end is denoted as Vcc. Hope that helps!

yeah, this is really SO MUCH WORSE than all this religionvsscience bullshit that's sprawled across half threads on page 0. Fuck you.

ground is the reference potential.

speaking of which, isn't it amazing how we can use complex numbers to calculate impendance?

'Earthing'

In electrical terms it's to connect back to the return supply via the ground. Commonly used as safety in various electrical applications. Universally identified as green & yellow cable where used. Wiki etc.

"In electrical engineering, ground or earth may be the reference point in an electrical circuit from which other voltages are measured, or a common return path for electric current, or a direct physical connection to the Earth."

Straight from Wikipedia.

Ground is any giant neutrally charged (0v) thing you can dump electrons into or pull electrons out of. In AC wiring you use some pipe going into the ground like your plumbing system. In DC systems "ground" is another word for the negative voltage supply (Vss), or (Vdd). These two different uses of the word ground can be confusing since they're not entirely the same thing.
